Our commitment is guided by the principles of ISO 26000, which provides a framework for corporate social responsibility. This standard helps us to operate in a socially responsible manner, taking into account the welfare of our stakeholders and the broader community. By adhering to these principles, we ensure that our business practices are ethical and sustainable, promoting transparency accountability.
Integrating social value into our operations is not merely an obligation but generates strategic advantage. By embedding social value into our core business strategies, we deliver meaningful impacts that extend beyond financial metrics. This approach allows us to support community wealth building, local employment, supply chain resilience, enhance community cohesion, and deliver a sustainable and greener built environment which nurtures health and wellbeing.
We believe that by investing in the communities where we operate, we not only contribute to their resilience and growth but also enhance our own organisational value and reputation. Through collaborative efforts and strategic partnerships, we strive to deliver tangible benefits that benefit both people and planet.
Investing in People
One of our proudest achievements is the way we’ve helped individuals and local suppliers grow with the business. Many of our team members—including Directors, Site Managers, and joiners—started their careers with us as apprentices or when they were newly qualified.
We actively partner with local colleges and schools to offer work experience, apprenticeships, and mentoring, supporting young people who are eager to build careers in construction. For example, Tyler and Noah, who joined us as apprentices, and are now skilled tradespeople. Leah, our female bricklayer, is challenging outdated industry stereotypes and inspiring the next generation of tradeswomen.
To strengthen this commitment, we’ve established our own in-house training centre, where we deliver continuous development for our team, apprentices, and supply chain partners. This dedicated facility supports skills training, health & safety refreshers, and early career development—all within a familiar, supportive environment.
Backing Local Business
We believe that social value starts with strengthening the local economy. That’s why we prioritise a regional supply chain, building long-term relationships with local contractors, trades, and product suppliers.
But we don’t stop there. We actively support our supply chain in upskilling, achieving accreditations like CHAS or SafeContractor, and meeting health, safety, and quality standards required on public sector projects. Through our training centre and one-to-one mentoring, we help small businesses grow and professionalise—ensuring they remain competitive in the evolving construction sector.
Sustainability and Legacy
We take a long-term view of our environmental and social responsibilities. Our investment in electric vehicles, our Carbon Reduction Plan, and our partnership with EcoVadis reflect our commitment to sustainability. But social value also means preserving and improving spaces that matter—from heritage schools to civic buildings and community centres.
We tailor our approach to the needs of each site and client, whether that’s reducing disruption during school term, providing safe working environments near vulnerable groups, or contributing to local events—like our recent involvement in a Remembrance service at East Midlands Airport.
Social Value in Action
Here’s how we’re delivering real, measurable impact across our projects and communities:
- In-house training centre supporting apprenticeships, ongoing staff development, and the upskilling of our wider supply chain.
- Work experience and apprenticeship placements delivered in collaboration with local colleges and schools, helping bridge the gap between education and employment.
- Over 70% of our supply chain is locally based, supporting regional economic growth and employment.
- Accreditation support and training for smaller suppliers, helping them grow in resilience, meet industry standards, and win more work.
- Sustainable procurement and just-in-time delivery practices that reduce waste, minimise transport emissions, and improve environmental performance.
- In-house manufacturing capability that supports skill development, reduces lead times, and cuts down environmental impact by reducing transport and packaging waste.
- Community contributions ranging from material donations to meaningful engagement projects — one of the most exciting being our involvement in the local DIY SOS build, due to air later this year.
- Community work hub — offering free use of our training centre and calm pods to local charities and social enterprises as unique spaces for productivity, collaboration, or respite.
- Client collaboration on social value projects, such as our joint initiative with the University of Leicester and other local contractors to rejuvenate a city centre adventure playground, improving safety and accessibility for local families.
- Strategic talks with Leicester City Council to co-develop a project aimed at inspiring and supporting young people into careers in construction, with a focus on real work opportunities and long-term support.
- Partnerships with like-minded local organisations to raise funds, sponsor sports events, and participate in local initiatives — using shared events and networking opportunities to foster collaborative working across the Midlands.
“For us, social value isn’t a checkbox—it’s part of our culture,” says Gareth Smith, Director. “We want to be known not just for the quality of our work, but for the positive footprint we leave behind.”
As we continue to grow, our focus on adding value beyond the build will remain central to our mission. Whether we’re working on a heritage school, a modern university campus, or a responsive maintenance framework, we’ll keep asking:
What more can we give back?
