Mental Health in Construction: Our Commitment to a Healthier Industry

Mental Health Awareness Week is an opportunity to reflect on what we’re doing as a business to support our team’s wellbeing. Here’s an overview of our commitment to mental health in construction.

Mental Health Awareness Week is a timely reminder of something we believe should be a year-round priority, particularly in construction, where the pressures of the job can weigh heavily on the people doing it.

The statistics are stark. Suicide is the leading cause of death among men aged 20–49 in the UK, and construction workers are disproportionately affected. It’s an issue our industry cannot afford to ignore, and one we’re committed to taking seriously at Oliveti Group.

What we’re doing

One of the most meaningful steps we’ve taken is investing in Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training across the business. The training gave our team a thorough grounding in mental health conditions, the stigma still attached to them, and how to have honest, open conversations with colleagues who may be struggling. Our trained Mental Health First Aiders are there to offer a confidential, non-judgemental ear to anyone on the team who needs it, whether on site or in the office.

We’ve also been proud to support the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity, which provides emotional, physical, and financial wellbeing support to construction workers and their families. In April, the Oliveti team took on the Wolf Run to raise funds for the charity.

Why it matters

Construction is a demanding environment. Long hours, physical pressures, and time away from home can all take a toll. We want our team to know that their wellbeing is not an afterthought; it’s something we actively think about and invest in.

If you or someone you know is struggling, please don’t hesitate to reach out. You don’t have to manage it alone.
