East Midlands Airport has been investing in a better experience for arriving passengers, and the Oliveti team was proud to play a part in bringing that vision to life.
As part of a wider refresh of the arrivals journey, we were appointed to deliver the feature wood panelling within the immigration hall, the space where passengers go through passport checks upon landing. The brief called for a natural oak finish, in keeping with improvements taking place across the terminal, and designed to give the hall a warmer, more welcoming feel.
Working in a Live Airport Environment
Projects in operational airports come with their own set of challenges, and this one was no different. Our site team worked within a live terminal, managing their working area carefully to ensure the safety of arriving passengers throughout. Barriers were put in place to separate the team and their work from members of the public, and work was paused whenever flights arrived to minimise disruption.
It is a way of working that requires planning, discipline and a good understanding of the environment. The team completed the installation over two weeks, delivering the finished result without disruption to airport operations.
The Finished Result
The natural oak panelling now forms a key feature of the immigration hall, contributing to the refreshed look and feel EMA set out to achieve. Alongside new wayfinding, welcome signage and local landmark imagery, the space feels noticeably more considered and inviting for passengers arriving into the East Midlands.
We are proud to have contributed to a project that is already being experienced by thousands of travellers, and we look forward to seeing the continued transformation of the terminal take shape.
